Our Venue in May

In 2026 we are working with two new venues in Portugal. If you would ask us to decide which one we prefer... well, we can't, so we leave that up to you.

Monte das Casolas (our venue for the May 2026 Mat + Reformer Retreat) is an exquisite paradise tucked away in the peaceful hills of the Alentejo region. Think rolling hills, surrounded by cork oak trees and nothing but the sounds of nature around you. For a bit of Portuguese civilization (let's face it, there is always something we forget to bring), the picturesque town of Grandola is not far.

Our Venue in August & November 2026

In the hills of sunny Loule, just 20 minutes from Faro airport lies Monte Sobradinho, our stunning retreat villa. Surrounded by lush gardens and with a cozy living room and three movement spaces, this retreat is more than our venue. It's deep conversations, shared laughter, and quiet moments that bring you back to yourself... It's also our permanent home for our 6 beautiful Kauffer Pilates reformers.


What about Food?

While the training is the heart of each retreat, we deeply believe that nourishment plays a vital role in your overall experience. All meals are freshly prepared, vegetarian, and designed to support you throughout your days of learning and movement. We’re happy to accommodate dietary needs—just let us know in advance.

Arrival & Departure Days

Arrival Days
You can check in from 5 pm and we officially start around 6 pm with a welcome and followed by dinner. Please plan your trip accordingly.

Departure Days
‍We finish the retreat with breakfast and check out at 10 am. If you have a morning flight, there is no program planned for departure day, so you won’t miss anything.

Transportation to and from the venues is usually not included, but we’re always here to help. Whether it’s arranging group transfers, recommending local options, or coordinating rides with fellow participants, we’ll do our best to make your journey to us as smooth as possible. Details will be shared well in advance.

BASI Pilates’ Mat + Reformer Flex Teacher Training program was designed with the aim of building a strong foundation to begin teaching Pilates with knowledge, ease and confidence. The immersive retreat style program is the perfect vehicle for learning the BASI Pilates method, which Rael Isacowitz (BASI’s founder) has spent over 40 years developing. With this certification we hope to spread our belief in the Pilates Method and certify teachers that truly embody and understand the essence of Pilates. The Mat + Reformer certification can be used towards BASI’s Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training worldwide.

About the BASI Method & Training

join an internationally recognized Pilates Teacher Training programme

We offer an immersion programme that integrates BASI Pilates' acknowledged Mat + Reformer Flex Programme in our signature retreat format. It includes 6 full days of training (7 nights) with post-course work to follow up. Each day will build up on the previous one and students must be present for the full length of the retreat.

The training is laid out in a retreat style format and consists of 6 days (7 nights) of intensive training. Each retreat includes all accommodation with breakfast, lunch & dinners, plenty of practice time, lots of personal coaching and a few surprises…

After completion of the retreat you will then start practicing in ‘real life’ and complete the standard 225 teaching, observation and practice hours required to receive your official BASI Pilates Mat + Reformer Teaching Certificate. Whenever you feel ready, you may take your practical exam at a designated BASI host location of your choice or online. In addition to the official BASI requirements, we’ve created our own (totally optional) What’s Next Mentorship Programme, led by the Life in Movement team. It’s designed to support you beyond the retreat, especially if you don’t have a BASI studio (or even a Pilates space) nearby. We know how real that can be. We can’t wait to welcome you into our little LIM ecosystem and growing community. You’re not doing this alone.

A Typical Retreat Day


8am — Morning Pilates Class

Note: The actual daily schedule might be adapted to the student's need and pace.

A non-refundable deposit of EUR 500 is required to reserve your spot. All bookings must be paid in full 8 weeks before start date, however we can still take bookings right up to the start date.

The prices for our any of our educational Retreats, always include both the training and the full retreat experience.

  • over 40 hrs of course lectures & training, including all levels BASI Pilates mat exercises, and funamental and intermediate level reformer exercises
  • full access to pre-recorded video lectures to prepare for the course 14 days prior to retreat start
  • all necessary training manuals and course materials in digital format & access to the BASI Pilates student platform

The regular rate is based on two people sharing* a room with twin beds. Single rooms are limited and will be given away on a first-come-first-serve basis.

When Mareile started to collaborate with BASI Pilates in 2017, she knew that she had found the perfect partner to offer a truly outstanding Pilates teacher training program. Mareile brings you the best teachers from BASI Pilates’ outstanding faculty and makes sure that you will feel reassured and taken care throughout the retreat. Mareile will be your primary contact for bookings and all retreat related questions and assist your journey to becoming a Pilates Teacher before, during and after the retreat.

Dom initially joined the LIM team as a yoga teacher. After her first retreat with us, she quickly decided to put BASI Pilates teacher on her list of skills and certified in 2024. Besides spear-heading all things social media for Life in Movement, you might also find Dom hosting you during some of our BASI Pilates Teacher Training Retreats.

All BASI Pilates education programs, including the Mat teacher training retreats, are taught by a select number of highly qualified and experienced Pilates teachers. The process of becoming BASI Faculty is a lengthy and rigorous one. Each faculty member is individually hand-selected and spends several years preparing to teach the BASI Pilates curriculum. Some BASI faculty teachers have been working with us on regular retreats for years and we are proud to be able to tap into their outstanding knowledge to provide our students with such high quality Pilates education.

We are honored you decided to start your journey with us. Welcome to leading your life in Movement.

We believe that movement is a lifelong journey—not something mastered in a few days. But we also know that committing to long-term training isn’t always easy. That’s why we offer our Pilates Teacher Trainings in an immersive retreat format: as a meaningful first step on your path as a teacher and mover. Please tell us a bit about yourself, so we can help support that journey.

Your information

Secure your Spot with a Deposit

In order to secure your spot on the retreat, we need to receive a non refundable EUR 500 deposit from you. We accept Credit Cards, and direct bank transfers. Please note that we won’t pay for any bank or transfer charges, including credit card fees.

Our Cancellation Policy
Travel Insurance

We highly encourage you to purchase travel insurance in case you need to cancel your trip. We have found during our travels that it is well worth having the coverage, as it covers many unforeseen circumstances that may arise while on vacation.

Cancellation up to 90 days before retreat start:

If we are able to fill your cancelled spot by three months before the retreat start, we will return all money paid to us, except your deposit. If we are unable to fill your spot, we will only return 50% of all money paid to us after deduction of the deposit.

Cancellation after three months before retreat start:

Sorry, but no refund possible after this date.If you are not able to attend the retreat but have a friend or family member that would like to attend, we are happy to transfer 100% of the money that you have paid toward your friend or family member. Both parties must notify us in writing in order to transfer names.

Non-Response Cancellation

If we repeatedly attempt to contact you via the communication methods provided by you (email, phone, etc.) to confirm your attendance or request final payment for a retreat, and you do not respond within one week of our third email/message attempt, we reserve the right to cancel your reservation. In this event, your spot may be given to another participant, and you will forfeit any deposit or partial payments made to us.

If we cancel the retreat:

All money paid to us by you will be returned, excluding bank chargers. Unfortunately we cannot compensate you for any plane tickets/transportation arrangements you have already made.

Payment general:

EUR 500 non-refundable deposit is required in order to secure your spot. We accept Credit Cards and / or direct bank transfer. Please note that we won’t pay for any bank or transfer charges, including credit card fees.
